Forum: GratefulDead Subject: JERRY SETS: Volume 04

in the world of Jerry Band aficionados, 6/16/82 stands out as one of those shows that everyone who gives it a listen is at once affected; performance-wise, there are few from the era which come close, and it is a top 5 or 10 in most anyone's Jerry collection; i can even imagine if i had been in attendance at this show, i would have spent my money, time, and energy in seeing the Garcia Band, rather than the GD; this show is fiery hot from start to finish, and an incredible audience recording by Jim Wise, definitely one of the handful of taper extraordinaires; set 1 has recently been circulated in soundboard, but i just love the feel and energy of this audience source, it resonates quite beautifully with that at-the-show sound and quality

this show is so good i am almost tempted to share both sets, however, perhaps next week or the week after i will do the 2nd set; however, for now, give listen to this masterful 1st set, which opens with a spot-on 'How Sweet It Is' and followed by one of my favourite versions of 'Catfish John', 13 minutes of sublime guitar work by Jerry; and as good as that version is, be prepared for a scintillating rendition of 'That's What Love Will Make You Do', i can listen to it over and over again and have; fact is, i really can't say enough positive about this show, and yet to further invite your interest would be a moot point once you sample this show; phenomenal, blistering, brilliant, timeless, amazing, exquisite are adjectives that i would quite easily apply to this show; personally, if you enjoy these .mp3 samples, i would seek out a lossless version, either this Wise recording, or the MOTB source of the Steinthal recording, or even the 1st set soundboard recording, all worth hearing

apologies in advance for the fact that the links are not direct download (i've exhausted my bandwidth at yet another file share site), however the process for downloading is fairly simple, just click the link, it will take you to another page and once there, click "download" ... meanwhile, i'll search for another fileshare site with direct downloads that does not require an arm and a leg, hopefully by next weekend; enjoy

Any word on getting the SET II up? I have been looking for it endlessly. I have held on to this show on an old cassette tape until the wheels just stopped spinning. I think it was the same day "Pulse" light went out! That was some day.

Arb, I love you man but posting that setlist just put a song in my head that I can't get out. I have never heard Valerie performed by Jerry and not sure who the original band is that did it. However, I immediately thought of the Steve Winwood version of Valerie that is synthesizer laden and it's just killing me right now

Here, use this as an aural cleanser to make you think of a different tune named Valeria (not best quality):

Yea, but with full electric band. Seen him dozens of times over the years.
This gives a better taste of what I saw that night:
